I pretty much love Haste.
If you haven't tried it yet, Haste is a gateway to quickly use the web search engine of your choice from the comfort of your desktop without having to switch to a web browser, open a new tab and proceed with your query.
The interface is clean and will remain you to Spotlight / Alfred / LaunchBar / Quicksilver, etc. Upon invoking Haste and starting typing your desired search term you will be able to quickly choose what search engine you want to employ by using a clever method that involves typing two or three consecutive letters (of your choice), an alias, that will open a new tab on your default browser and launch the search.
Can Haste be improved? Surely it can, just like almost every other piece of software in existence. Does it deserve five stars right now? Probably not, and I wouldn't rate it this way if the previous rating was a honest rating.
But for sure I could give Haste four well-deserved stars because:
1) The app is quite handy and accomplishes what it promises very well;
2) IMO -- yeah, that's right, FOR ME - it has a better approach to web search than Alfred has: I considered buying Alfred for some time because you know, it could do the web search thing PLUS all the other neat stuff it can do. Well, it turns out that for my workflow I don't need any of the other fancy features it provides and, conversely, to my taste, Haste nails it down how to make web searches from the desktop with Alfred coming far on a second place with its implementation;
3) The developers are great, really: some time ago, a couple of months or so, I emailed them with some questions about the product and some 'suggestions' based on my own workflow (I labeled them 'Wish request' ^_^) and they not only answered quick but with a lot of useful information;
4) Last but not least (should I've put this on top?) the software is light on resources, as all well coded software should be: it won't feast on your system CPU cycles or memory, it will stay out of the way consuming very little energy until you bring it up to the foreground.
So yeah, if the price is fair once it goes on sale I'm considering buying Haste. Bonus point: it will be commercialized through the MAS.
Hasten is a status bar app for OS X which lowers your latency to remote servers. It optimises your Internet performance to send data more quickly. This helps reduce your lag for online games, and improve call quality for VoIP telephony and video quality for online streaming. One of the biggest causes of lag or poor voice quality are delays for the server/Mac receiving or sending data. Hasten speeds this up to improve performance.
Haste Macaco Corolla
- Online Gaming - Anyone who has played games online will have suffered from lags and kicks. Hasten helps to lower your ping (latency) and improve your gaming performance. Lower latency is a big advantage especially in PVP situations.
- VoIP Telephone - Delays on a phone call are obviously annoying. Hasten helps improve voice and video quality for VoIP services such as Skype by lowering latency to reduce the delays.
- Video Streaming - Hasten can improve the quality for video streaming services such as Twitch, Netflix, and others. Hasten reduces data-packet buffering and produces a higher transmission bitrate to improve transmission quality.
- Online Trading - Capital markets--particularly where algorithmic trading is used to process market updates and turn around orders within milliseconds--are greatly affected by latency. Millisecond improvements in network speeds offer a competitive advantage for financial institutions.
